Description

Perhaps not even Enrico Piaggio (who wanted it) and Corradino D'Ascanio (who designed it) could have imagined such a success for their scooter. A term virtually unknown at the time, so much so that the first Vespa models were advertised as "Utility Motoleggera" and "Small Two-Wheel Vehicle," partly to bring it closer to the world of cars, keeping away from that of uncomfortable two-wheelers. And it is precisely to remedy the problems of the latter that the Vespa was born well: protective (it has a front shield), clean (the engine is enclosed), comfortable (with the open frame even women can ride), and reliable (with the small wheels there is room for the spare tire). Over twenty million units later, the Vespa has nothing left to prove; as a vehicle, it has practically reached perfection, constantly evolving in style and mechanics. But above all, it has expanded its space as an agile means of transport to become an icon of Made in Italy, representing a masterpiece of industrial design and winning the hearts of many enthusiasts who rave about it.

This book, written by Giorgio Sarti, the most authoritative expert on Piaggio's famous scooter, with several books on the subject under his belt, organizes the subject for the first time by dividing production into the Vespini (small body) and the Vesponi (large body). Within these "macrofamilies," each model has its own dedicated section, detailing its history and key technical data.

Other sections are dedicated to style (with the Vespa 946), the future (with the Vespa Elettrica), and a variety of topics, from racing to records, from cinema to models produced abroad. Several virtually unknown models are also included, making this book particularly inspiring for everyone, from Vespa enthusiasts to those simply aspiring to the classic Vespa. The book is also accompanied by over four hundred historical and modern images.
