The band's experimental sound matured in the 1970s, the decade in which they released one of the greatest rock albums of all time, The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), followed by other timeless classics including Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977), and The Wall (1979).

Despite lineup changes and hiatuses over the decades, the band's popularity and influence continue to endure. Today, the Royal Mint pays tribute to the group's inimitable legacy with a reverse design featuring the famous prism from The Dark Side of the Moon, framed within the field of a United Kingdom coin.
