Description

THE FINAL coin in the collection: The Royal Dragon

This coin collection is dedicated to the ten heraldic figures that adorn the bridge of Hampton Court Palace.

When Henry VIII married Jane Seymour in 1536, he erected ten enormous heraldic statues of animals—the Tudor Beasts—in front of the new entrance to Hampton Court Palace. These beasts were intended to showcase and celebrate the legitimacy and power of the Tudor dynasty, uniting the king's royal arms with those of his new queen.

These statues symbolize heraldic figures associated with Henry VIII and his third wife, Jane Seymour. The ten coins in the collection are: 1) The Seymour Panther (2022), 2) The Lion of England (2022), 3) The Yale of Beaufort (2023), 4) The Bull of Clarence (2023), 5) The Seymour Unicorn (2024), 6) The Tudor Dragon (2024), 7) The Queen's Panther (2025), 8) The Richmond Greyhound (2022), 9) The Queen's Lion (2023), and the final coin: The Royal Dragon.

Together, they represent the power, marital alliances, and dynastic claims of the Tudors, with a clear propaganda intent: to demonstrate that the throne of England rightfully belonged to Henry VIII and his heirs.

The Royal Dragon, created by artist David Lawrence, represents the Welsh origins of the Tudor monarch and serves as a symbol of courage and strength.

The obverse of this coin features the first official portrait of His Majesty Charles III, created by sculptor Martin Jennings.
