United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, on 31 October 2000, officially recognized for the first time in history the specificity of the role, experience and needs of women in a conflict situation. The reference is both to times of war and times of peace and dispute resolution. This is a very important observation because it attributes to women a fundamental role in this context, not only at an operational but also decision-making level.

The coin depicts 3 women in profile and the writing "UNSCR 1325", a reference to the historic UN Security Council document. This is Malta's tribute and features the words "Women, Peace, Security".
