Description

The Central Bank of Malta's shield is depicted in the centre of the obverse of the coin, representing the Maltese financial institution and its mission to ensure a stable and efficient currency and payment system. Around this shield are the inscriptions 'CENTRAL BANK OF MALTA' and 'FIDUCIA FORTIS'. The obverse of the coin also shows the year of the bank's foundation, '1968', representing the bank's long-standing experience, and the denomination '5 EURO'. The reverse of the coin depicts the Maltese Cross, historically associated with the Knights of Malta and currently used worldwide as a symbol of solidarity, courage and humanitarian aid.
