Description
Krugerrand is a South African gold coin whose name derives from the politician Paul Kruger (embossed on the obverse, while the reverse features one of the symbols of South Africa, the gazelle).
It was first minted in 1967, with the intention of supporting gold on the South African market and is still considered a means of payment today.
It was the first coin to contain 1 ounce of pure gold, thus allowing the legal possession by individuals (especially Americans) of gold not in the form of bullion.
