Description

Debuting in 1986, the American Gold Eagle Coins always have high demand and popularity for both collectors and investors alike.

The obverse will remain the same, however, both the silver and gold editions now depict the bald eagle in a more realistic form.

The US Mint also added new security features including the anti-counterfeit reeded edge that appears as a “gap” variation in the coin’s edge.

The obverse of this New Gold Eagle coin was modified to display a resurrected version of Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ illustration. Modified details can be seen on the Capitol building, stars, Liberty’s torch, the sun rays, and other elements per the detailing of the original bronze cast.

Lady Liberty proudly strides forward with a flaming torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. These two objects combine to signify the concept of peace through strength. Rays of sunlight radiate from the US Capitol behind her.

The reverse features a close-up image of the left side of a bald eagle’s head. Inscriptions surround the eagle including the country, weight, purity, denomination, “E Pluribus Unum”, and “In God We Trust”.
